Wells Fargo Offers “Green” Credit Card Rewards to Ease Global Warming

Instead of cashing in points for airline flights or gift certificates, why not donate money to renewable energy projects to make the Earth a cleaner, safer place for future generations?

Now Wells Fargo is allowing customers enrolled in its rewards program to do just that. For 5,000 points, cardholders can support 6,000 kilowatt hours of green power. For 10,000 points, cardholders can support enough green power to offset more than seven tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

The rewards program is available to cardholders who are enrolled in Enhanced Rewards, Exclusive Rewards, Rewards for Business Check Card and Wells Fargo Business Card Rewards(SM).

Once points are redeemed, customers will receive certificates for their donations, which will likely be tax deductible.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Power Partnership program, Wells Fargo was the biggest purchaser of renewable energy in the United States, relying on wind power for over 40 percent of its electricity consumption.
