Refund for Credit Card Foreign Transaction Fees

Remember all those foreign transaction fees you had to pay when you used your credit card on trips outside the country?

Well, a $336 million dollar settlement aims to put some of those charges back in the pockets of consumers who were allegedly overcharged.

The lawsuit is in regard to the fees Visa/MC credit cardholders were charged to make transactions in a foreign currency or with a foreign merchant between February 1, 1996 and November 8, 2006.

The defendants include Visa, MC, Diners Club, Bank of America, Bank One/First USA, Citi, Chase, MBNA, HSBC/Household Finance, and WaMu/Providian, so virtually everybody except American Express

If you’re due a refund, you probably received a letter in the mail regarding the issue recently.

But it’s also possible to fill out the refund request online even if you didn’t receive a notice in the mail, and believe that you were charged these fees over the last decade.

There are three refund options, including a quick $25 refund, a total estimation refund, and an annual estimated refund.

Take a look at CCFSettlement.com for more information regarding the matter.

FYI: You can avoid foreign transaction fees altogether by using Discover or Capital One credit cards.
