With all these bank mergers taking place, it’s becoming increasingly important to keep tabs on all your financial accounts so you know what’s what.
The good news, for some, is that ATM fees are disappearing as fewer banks mean fewer non-bank transaction fees.
For example, Wachovia and Wells Fargo customers can use ATM machines at either of the companies’ locations without incurring any related transaction fees.
But it’s not all rosy, as evidenced by one important change arising from the Washington Mutual and Chase merger.
Beginning March 9, holders of Washington Mutual credit cards will no longer be able to access their Fico score for free, one of the main draws associated with such a credit card.
Of course, you can still get access to your Fico score via Chase’s Credit Builder program, for a fee. How convenient…
Chase also noted that WaMu credit card information will be unavailable from March 4-8 during the migration, so make sure you take care of any important tasks on other dates.
Obviously, trying to submit a last-minute payment on these days would be ill advised.
You’ll also need to print out your past transaction history for your records, as Chase will only be providing three months of WaMu credit card transactions online.
Keep in mind you can still get a free credit report without a credit card, so don’t fret.
Tip: There is no truly free credit score out there.
