Get a Free Credit Score Estimate

If you’re not willing to lay down the money for a credit report, and you don’t want to deal with the hassle of signing up for and subsequently canceling a so-called free credit report, try the free “Fico Score Estimator.”
The simple program offered by Fair Isaac, the creator the of the Fico score, asks you 10 general questions about your credit history and instantly yields a credit score range.
Although it’s nowhere near perfect, it’ll give you a good idea as to where you stand, and in what areas you lack.
It asks questions such as how many credit cards you have, when you opened your first credit card, how recently you applied for credit, if you’ve ever been late, and if you’ve ever had serious financial problems such as a foreclosure or a bankruptcy filing.
I ran the program myself and found it somewhat helpful, though the final result gave me a range of 50 points, which is quite a substantial variation.
At the end of the process, it will give you an estimate of your credit score and also offer more complete credit score solutions.
I can’t say I recommend shelling out the extra bucks to get your actual credit score unless you’re planning a big purchase in the future and really need to know your score, especially when you can probably find a free credit report option elsewhere.
But all in all, it’s a quick way to check out where you may stand, and what factors Fair Isaac weighs more than others to see what you can work on.
