Capital One Customer Service Hell
A friend of mine recently applied for a Capital One credit card which he was subsequently approved for.
Once he received the credit card in the mail, he called the number listed on the front of the card to activate it. He went through the typical automated call center commands, pushing “1″ for this and “3″ for that, until he was ultimately placed on hold.
He remained on hold for nearly 3 hours in fact, until he finally gave up. He called back several times and again was placed on hold.
Seemed rather strange that a credit card company would make it difficult for a new card holder to activate their new credit card. You think they’d want to get him activated asap and get him spending.
But apparently my friend has bad credit, and his credit card was designed for card holders with poor credit. So perhaps this was the reason he was being treated like a second-class citizen by Capital One.
Either way, it seems very unreasonable for a credit card company, or any company for that matter to leave a customer on hold for 3 hours. I’m not sure how long the process takes with other Capital One products, but this should serve as a warning for anyone applying for one of their “bad credit” credit cards. Whether they treat their A+ borrowers any better is up in the air.
