Bank of America Raising ATM Fee to $3

In a surprising move, Bank of America has announced that their fee for non-customer withdrawals at ATM machines will be raised from $2 to $3 per transaction.

The Charlotte-based bank said it raised fees in order to maintain and grow its network, which supposedly will lead to more convenience for current customers.

The bank began charging the higher fee on July 31, and had assessed the change at nearly 10,700 US based ATMs.

Bank of America did note that 6,300 “off-site” ATMs are still charging the typical $2, which the bank said were frequented more often by non-customers.

Needless to say, non-customers were not happy about the change.

The scary thing is that other banks will likely follow suit, making the occasional trip to a foreign ATM machine a costly endeavor.

All the more reason to get cash at your primary banking institution before you go out.
